I realized that this blog has a lot of text lately... so here are a few pictures from my trip to Singapore back in May, to spice things up...
(Side note: my film camera was stolen from my luggage, so I didn't take as many as I would have...)
On my first full day, Eileen took me to Chinatown. We went to the really touristy part because I got super excited about it... I also didn't know that was the touristy part, otherwise, I would've preferred to go to "real Chinatown."
We went to Tong Heng, a bakery that has really good egg tarts, and boy is it good....
After walking around for a bit more, looking at temples, churches and mosques that are only a block away from each other (think ethnic tensions), Eileen took me to a famous hawker center (food centre) nearby. There is so much to choose from... I decided to go with hainese chicken, because someone really wanted me to eat it.
Sri Mariamnan Temple:
A mosque:
Hainese chicken:
Eileen and Abigail kept saying that there isn't much to do in Singapore because the island is so small, but I found something to do everyday. Honestly though, I was able to spread out my itinerary because it was so damn hot I could only stay out for a few hours before I crawled into a [heavily air conditioned] mall.
A typical coffee shop across from my hostel:
Eileen and her boyfriend took me to the above coffee shop when I arrived in Singapore; they are so sweet - they picked me up from the airport, and were super surprised that I packed so light - just one carry on hah. I tried Indian rojack, which is basically fried dough that you dip in a light pseudo curry sauce. I also tried bak choir mee - a dry noodle dish with minced meat. It is really tasty!
A cute pink drink at a mall. Eileen said she enjoyed this a lot when she was kid, but it's too sweet for her now. I'm a sugar addict so it tastes like water to me.
I love this, a typical breakfast while I was in Singapore - cheong fun!!
Singapore has this thing called half-boiled eggs. It's essentially raw eggs, slightly cooked. It's novel, so I tried it... but I think it gave me a stomachache, so I avoided it after that one time.
Well that's all for now!!
