Over July 4th weekend, J and I rented a car and went hiking in Minnewaka State Park; the waterfall caught J's eye and suggested we make a trip there. We woke up early to pick up the car at LaGuardia Airport and drove 1.5 hours to the park. The drive was uneventful. It turned out to be a beautiful day to go hiking - sunny and warm, and thankfully not extremely humid.
During the hike we walked through an area that had a fire - the dead, charcoal trees were terrifying to look at. It's also a shame because some of the trees were around for a long time (we checked out the rings on the tree trunks).
The waterfall is beautiful. We had lunch at the top of the waterfall, walked to the edge to see the 90 degree drop (!),
and took selfies - dare devils.

We decided to go to High Point, the summit, for the view, but it was anticlimactic since we've been looking at the same forest for a long time. However, the height was still phenomenal - we had almost a bird-eye view of the entire area.
Somewhere on the trail, this was basically what we saw the whole time - you can see as far as your eyes can go!
