We did some last-minute Christmas shopping this past Saturday. But that's not the story in this post.
Mike's family does secret Santa every Christmas and Mike's secret Santa this year wanted snow boots. She gave us a link to a pair of tan/black Tommy Hilfiger and Mike ordered them online from Lord & Taylor. He shipped them to his house and when he opened them Saturday night, they were black/navy, not tan/black. The funny thing is, the black/navy ones weren't even an option on the website. Lord & Taylor really fucked up! When we called customer service for an explanation (and options), the rep didn't say anything. Awkward silence for 2 minutes. Awkward.
We were in a pickle because his sister is leaving for DC the next day to fly to Denmark on Monday, and she needed the present wrapped Saturday night so she could take it to Denmark and open it with everyone via Skype on Christmas. Mike was so defeated. He's Buddy the Elf! And Buddy the Elf doesn't ruin Christmas!
So what to do? Mike tells his secret Santa the whole story and they decide to return the boots. They're fugly. I stayed upbeat that Mike will find something for his secret Santa - we could go to a store early the next morning to buy something and give it to her before she leaves. Mike did a search and found the boots in Macy's. So we woke up at 7:30a to go to Macy's, bought it and wrapped it at the bus station before his sister left for DC.
Christmas is saved!
